FEMNET welcomes a newly elected Board of Directors

The Pan African Women’s Development and Communications network, FEMNET, has welcomed a new Board of Directors to help steer the Pan African women’s rights organization to greater heights.
FEMNET is pleased to announce that Mrs. Emma Kaliya, the newly elected Chairperson to the Board retains her position as the Chair, unopposed and celebrated by a multitude of FEMNET members and staff attending the 7th Programming Conference and General Assembly in Nairobi on 3rd to 5th May 2017.
Mrs. Kaliya, a veteran FEMNET member and renown Human rights, gender and women’s rights activist from Malawi will be serving a second term as the chair of the board that encompasses seven board members from all of Africa’s sub –regions.
The Board members include; Ms. Nancy Kinanu Gitonga, the Board Treasurer (Kenya) Mrs. Charity Binka, Board Secretary (Ghana), Ms. Patricia Munabi (Uganda), Ms. Rafa Machava (Mozambique), Dr. Amany Asfour (Egypt) and Ms. Bibyshe Takubusonga Mundjo (Democratic Republic of Congo).
Accepting the unopposed election to a second term as Board Chairperson presided over by about 150 FEMNET members representing various organizations and individuals from 43 African countries, Mrs. Emma Kaliya affirmed the new boards determination to elevate FEMNET into even higher credible acclaim regionally and globally.
“You have entrusted us again with the well-being of women and girls in Africa. This is a responsibility that cannot be taken for granted. African women and girls matter now much more than before. We must strengthen all our efforts and amplify our collective voices for the rights of women and girls of Africa” Said Mrs. Kaliya. “We are ready to serve and ready to carry on with the fight for gender equality”.
Over the past 28 years, FEMNET has distinguished itself as a visible and credible pan-African women’s rights organization that works with its members to assert influence at strategic regional and global levels.
FEMNET has fulfilled this mandate through diverse strategies of mobilizing and networking women and girls, facilitated by leveraging a membership network consisting of over 500 members of all diversity in 43 countries across the African continent and in the diaspora. Continentally and globally, FEMNET is recognized as a credible voice for African women and girls in significant decision-making platforms. Our recognition and legitimacy is especially drawn from our membership whom we serve and whose voice we continuously strive to amplify and represent.
