Capacity Building Officer & African Human Rights Systems Lead

Irene Mwendwa

Irene joined FEMNET as a Capacity Building Officer in August 2018, where she supports partners, staff and board engagement, strategy implementation and capacity development. Irene’s career is centred in the participation of girls and women in decision making positions. She also leads and strengthens WROs engagement at the Africa Human Rights Systems namely the Africa Commission on Human and People’s Rights (ACHPR). Irene coordinated the celebrated Kura Yangu Sauti Yangu Coalition bringing together leading human rights civil society actors to call for fair and credible elections and the upholding of civil and political rights at the KHRC. She brings substantial project and operations management and movement strengthening experience from her role where she built the operations systems for the coalition; co-led programmatic results management; and supported operational compliance and quality assurance. She obtained her Bachelor of Laws degree from the Kenyatta University- Kenya in 2015.
