FEMNET presents the Third Update on African Women in Political Leadership, covering May-August which saw historic elections in a number of African countries, including Libya, Egypt and Somalia. Election results in Algeria and Senegal resulted in unprecedented numbers of women entering the political arena, and the long-awaited results of the African Union Commission elections saw a woman occupy the post for the first time in the history of the African Union and its predecessor, the Organization for African Unity.
