In Solidarity with #NikoNaWewe

#JusticeForMoiGirls Peaceful Protest
The #NikoNaWewe movement is an organic grassroots movement against all forms of violence against women and girls and especially sexual and gender based violence. The movement aims to provide a solidarity platform with women and girls who are survivors of sexual and gender based violence. The #NikoNaWewe allies, supporters and partners strongly condemn the violation and RAPE of school girls in MOI Girls. It is concerning to see how sexual and gender based violence continues to be widespread in institutions of learning particularly in girls boarding schools.
Sadly, global trends on sexual violence attest that 1 in 3 women will experience violence in her lifetime.  From this, we are clearly learning that those in schools where security is expected as a bare minimum are not exempted!!!!!!
This goes to illustrate how sexual and gender based violence compounds other social, economic and political vulnerabilities faced by women and girls.

  • Our Demands:

We, the women and girls of Kenya are extremely horrified and angry by the rising cases of sexual violence in the country and now extended even to our schools. It is a harsh reality for us that even in our schools, our girls are not safe!

  • Our Solidarity:

We the women and girls of Kenya, now REFUSE to be silent!
We are organizing and strategizing for SUSTAINABLE CHANGE!

  • RAPE MUST STOP!

The #NikoNaWewe Campaign is providing a strong voice and solidarity with all survivors of rape.
We specifically reach out to the girls of Moi girls school and tell them; “You are not alone, #NikoNaWewe!
We affirm the girls who had to undergo this gross attack of rape and want them to know that we are with them; that we shall seek justice, accountability and fairness on their  behalf; that we shall unite and fight this monster called rape!

We acknowledge that action is being taken on the Moi girls case, HOWEVER, this is not enough – NO ARRESTS HAVE BEEN MADE!! We, the #NikoNaWewe Campaign therefore call upon the Ministry of Education to;

  • Conduct a thorough security audit of all girls’ schools across the country to ascertain the safety and security of our girls. The Moi Girls case serves as a reminder to the public and the entire nation of the prevalence of rape in schools and especially boarding schools. This Security audit is key to ensuring that girls in schools are NOT burdened with sexual violence and other forms of violence.
  • Arrest, prosecute and convict all perpetrators and accomplices. Upto NOW there has been no arrests yet we KNOW too well that there has been allegations of obstruction of justice. We therefore call upon the Ministry to work closely with the police to expedite the arrest and conviction of ALL those who RAPED the girls and the accomplices who seemingly are complicit in jeopardizing the just6ice process for the girls.
  • Include other stakeholders in the investigation process. Moi Girls is a part of a broader community; the girls are daughters, sisters and community members. We therefore call for inclusion of community members, sheikh and leaders during the investigation to guarantee transparency

We must STOP RAPE at all costs!
#Justice for Moi Girls must prevail
