The Spotlight Initiative ” The Bamako Recommendations”
Violence against women and girls (VAWG) is a global pandemic and the most pervasive and widespread human rights violation. It encompasses, but is not limited to, physical, sexual and psychological violence occurring in the family or within the general community and condemned by the State. Other forms of VAWG such as child marriage and FGM/C are also highly prevalent in Africa.
While there are several instruments and frameworks for the ending violence against women and girls (EVAWG) including the AU’s Agenda 2063, Agenda 2030, the Protocol to the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa (Maputo Protocol), the implementation of these instruments is still limited. The Bamako recommendations on EVAWG are the unabated voices of African women and girls from Mali who are commitment to action on the elimination of violence against women and girls, including Sexual and Reproductive Health and Reproductive Rights (SRH&RR).

La violence à l’égard des femmes et des filles est une pandémie mondiale et la violation des droits de l’homme la plus répandue. Elle englobe, sans s’y limiter, les violences physiques, sexuelles et psychologiques commises au sein de la famille ou de la communauté et condamné ar l’État. D’autres formes de violence à l’égard des femmes, telles que le mariage des enfants et les mutilations génitales féminines, sont également très répandues en Afrique.
Bien qu’il existe plusieurs instruments et cadres pour mettre fin à la violence contre les femmes et les filles (EVAWG), y compris l’Agenda 2063 de l’UA, l’Agenda 2030, le Protocole à la Charte africaine des droits de l’homme et des peuples relatif aux droits des femmes en Afrique (Protocole de Maputo), la mise en œuvre de ces instruments est encore limitée. Les recommandations de Bamako sur l’EVAWG sont les voix inébranlables des femmes et filles africaines du Mali qui s’engagent à agir pour l’élimination de la violence à l’égard des femmes et des filles, y compris la santé sexuelle et reproductive et les droits de la reproduction (SSR&RR).
